For the first time in its history, UNIMA will hold the Meeting of all its Councillors in Latin America at the invitation of Cuba’National Art Council and UNIMA-Cuba. In the frame of my duty, I had the pleasure, last spring, to meet the President of el Consejo Nacional de las Artes Escénicas, Mrs Gisela Gonzalez, and the members of the Organizing committee directed by Mr Ruben Dario Salazar, director of the Festival and UNIMA-Cuba’s national secretary
(Most of you had the chance to meet him at Chengdu and assist to its presentation.) Believe me, it’s will be an event not to missed !
The meeting place will be held in the nicest hall of the Convention Center Plaza América of Varadero, at a few step of one of the nicest beach in the world. The address is: Autopista Sur, Kilómetro 11 – Varadero (Highway South, Kilometre 11 – Varadero.
The dates are April 22-23-24 2014. The International Festival surrounding the Council Meeting will be at 45 kilometres from there, in the city of Matanzas, considered as the Cuban capital of puppetry. To get the transport included, back and forth, from your hotel to the Meeting and from the hotel to the festival, you have to book with Gaviota Tour, recommended by the organizing committee. (See their offer here joined.)
I encourage all the UNIMA Councillors and members to underline these dates on their calendar and reserve as soon as possible. Please attend this important meeting and enjoy the festival called Taller internacional de Titeres de Matanzas, celebrating 20 years of existence, whose activities will be presented from April 19th to 27th.
Be aware that the price of Gaviota includes also a day to the city of La Habana, on April 20th, with presentation of a show. Please take note that the website and the blog of UNIMA-Cuba will give you, in few weeks, all the details related to this event.
Details of the offer made by Gaviota Agency
I’m giving you here the explanations of the offer made by the Gaviota Agency recommended by the Organizing committee and the Art Council, including three hotels of different price range, that all include the accommodation, the 3 meals, the drinks, the transportation back and forth from the hotel to the Convention Center, the transport back and forth for the shows in Matanzas and also a full day trip, back and forth, to La Habana.
The important thing is to reserve directly with them. You have to book a flight that goes directly from your airport of departure to the Varadero International Airport, located at some 20 minutes of your hotel. (Please, don’t take a flight that lands in La Habana, it will complicate things for you. La Habana is at 2h30 from Varadero)
Of course, you are free to choose an other travel agency, however, in this case, the transportations to come to the meetings won’t be included, neither the one to go to see the shows in Matanzas, or the excursion to La Habana. Taxis are expensive in Cuba and the buses don’t always go to the centre of the city.
I personnally visited the 3 hotels, that are all directly by the wonderful beach. The quality and the services are excellent. Consult yourself on internet by the name of the each hotel. I recommend all of you to reserve one of the 3 hotels suggested and to pay directly Gaviota. The details appear in the quotation here joined.
A supplement cost of 200 USD, covering the fees of inscription, the dossier of Meeting and the cost of the shows, will have to be paid and the UNIMA-Cuba will communicate this information and tell you how to make this payment and to which instance.
As the opening of the festival, in Matanzas, will occur in the evening, on April 19th, 2013, and as the excursion to La Havana will be the day after, on 20, I recommend you to arrive during the day of April 19th, 2013.
